5 PM Sunday Youth Mass:
SJN offers several different mass times for families to attend. One option is our newest mass time! This is a billingual (English/ Spanish) mass with teens serving in the various liturgical ministries: as ushers, lectors, altar servers, and in the youth band. We have whole families that find different ways to serve. We are always looking for more volunteers to get involved!
High School Youth Group:
Join us Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM (following the 5pm mass) in the Parish Center (located at the main church building) October - February and at the Neumann House March-June (9001 Warfeild Rd). ALL High schoolers from any school or schooling type are welcome and we love to see new people! At our weekly meetings, we have dinner, time to pray, learn, discuss, hang out, and play games! Discussion is done in small groups, where teens have a chance to share with one another their struggles and triumphs in their faith life, while being guided by adult and teen leaders. We also have monthly adoration, opportunities for service, retreats, and fun off-site events. Check out our calendar to keep up with everything that's happening!
Throughout the year you can look forward to Prom Kickball, bonfire & hayride, Back from the Dead Cemetery Walk, Mass & March for Life in DC, Mount 2000 Retreat, Encounter service work camp, Fall retreats, Steubenville NYC conference, vocational opportunities, VBS, and much more!
Middle School Youth Group:
Mrs. Marisa Stoolmiller leads our NOW WEEKLY youth group for middle schoolers (6th-8th graders)! The group meets weekly at the SAME TIME as the High School (Sundays 6:30-8:30pm) making it easy for parents to drop off their teens. Middle School meets at the Neumann House Oct-Feb and at the Parish Center March-June. This youth group is designed to reinforce catechesis at home, school, and Religious Ed, with dinner, games and snacks to add some fun! Like the high school version, middle schoolers have the opportunity to build friendships within the Catholic community, talk about relevant issues facing them, learn more about church teaching, have discussions, play games, and more! Throughout the year there will be a couple social events, exposure to religious brothers & sisters and seminarians, and service opportunities. Check out our calendar to keep up with what's happening and join the email list! Contact email@example.com for more information.
We are blessed to have adults who volunteer to be present at youth group and lend their help in leading small group discussions. To be an adult volunteer, you must be 21, VIRTUS certified and have a passion for sharing your faith with young people. If you are interested in getting involved in this ministry, please contact Gina Nino de Nightingale for more information.
Gina Nino de Nightingale
My name is Gina Nino de Nightingale and I am the youth minister here at SJN.
I have been a parishioner at SJN since I entered high school in the late 90’s. My husband and I were married at SJN in 2007 and live in the area. We have a 3 year old daughter Dahlia and an infant son, Xavier. I love to paint, play with my kids, read, cook & bake, and play mini golf and bowl (though I’m not any good at the later two!).
I have been involved in youth ministry since 2007. I started helping here at SJN, first with the middle school group, and loved it so much that I began volunteering with the weekly high school ministry too. I was (and am) inspired by the teens’ faith and their desire for Christ. Through prayer and witnessing their zeal I was led back to school to get my BA in theology from Mount St. Mary’s University. I went on to serve as the youth minister at St. Mary’s in Rockville until a few months after the birth of my daughter, and then at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda. Last year in July 2015, I had the opportunity to come back to SJN and serve as the youth minister for my home parish. It's been a busy and sometimes chaotic time, with two small children, facilities under renovation, and a growing diverse ministry! But it is my pleasure to get to serve my community and work so close to home.
