EVANGELIZATION COMMITTEE There are a number of ways we can evangelize ourselves and fellow human beings by bringing the Word and Church to each other. In addition to catechesis, scripture study, serving the vulnerable, and other means, SJN has an Evangelization Committee especially devoted to the ministry. We sponsor door-to-door evangelization in nearby neighborhoods and the annual Parish Mission, and produce special information throughout the year. The ministry is expanding and always on the lookout for ways to encourage a deeper relationship with our Lord. Meetings are once a month.
JOHN PAUL THE GREAT VOCATIONS SOCIETY seeks to encourage and support vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life through prayer and practical action. Our patron is John Paul II, who wrote, "There is an urgent need, especially nowadays, for a more widespread and deeply felt conviction that all members of the Church, without exception, have the grace and responsibility to look after vocations." (Pastores dabo vobis, n.41).
Some of the year's projects have included sending birthday cards to Archdiocesan seminarians, introducing the Vocations Chalice project to encourage prayer for vocations, and organizing a basketball game between parishioners and seminarians (Neumann Nets vs. DC 'Hood). We generally meet monthly on a Sunday evening for a potluck dinner with the whole family, followed by a meeting (babysitting provided).
