Highlights (see bulletin for details):
  • Our Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Guadalupe Council # 12127, is hosting the Silver Rose Program, a Marian devotion prayer service, Thursday, August 5 at 7:30PM. The Program began in 1960 to reaffirm our commitment to the sanctity of human life. A Silver Rose, traveling from Canada, will be in our parish that day, and the program will consist of Mass, Rosary, Readings, and Litany.
  • Our St Vincent dePaul Society and KOC will sponsor a Rummage Sale at the Neumann House to benefit St Martin's SVDP - on Saturday August 28 from 9AM-7PM and Sunday August 29 from 8AM-3PM. DROP OFF DONATIONS Saturday July 31 and August 7 from 9-2 at the Neumann House. Great variety of items needed! See the bulletin.
  • Parents, remember to register your children for 2010-2011 Religious Formation classes! The sooner you register, the better chance of getting the day and time you would like. Complete the online form (under the Education tab) or pick one up outsdie the RF office, in the church lobby, or call 301 977 7990.

  • Parish and Community:
  • WELCOMING FATHER JOSE ARRIAGA - Father Jose has been assigned to St Rose of Lima and to St John Neumann chiefly to minister to the Spanish-speaking communities of both parishes. He will live at St Rose. His first weekend here will be Sunday, July 4, at which time the Mass in Spanish will move from 1:30PM back to its original 5PM time. This is because Fr Jose will say the Mass in Spanish at 1PM for St Rose. (The Extraordinary Form of the Mass here will then be at 1:30PM). Fr Jose will also assist with weekday Masses and some Sunday Masses in English. Let's give Fr Jose a warm welcome!

  • WELCOMING a NEW STAFF MEMBER and SAYING FAREWELL to ANOTHER - Damaris Rivera has joined the staff as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Religious Formation. She has been a member of St Martins for 6 years where she has been a catechist and lector. She originally hails from Puerto Rico and moved to Yonkers, NY in 1995. In 2003 she moved to Rockville where she lives with her daughter. Sadly, as we are glad Damaris is with us, it means saying goodby to Carmen Tondo who has been with us for two years. We rejoice with her as she will soon be giving birth to and welcoming her first child. We keep both women in prayer as they continue to do the Lord's work each in their own way.

  • YEAR OF THE PRIEST - The JOHN PAUL THE GREAT VOCATIONS SOCIETY of SJN is a very active ministry in our parish especially in this year of the priest. Check out their table in the lobby to find information on the Vocations Chalice Program (see below). Take a photo of the 67 current seminarians of the Archdiocese and pray for them. You can also go to Pray for our Diocesan Priests. This link will be updated as we receive new information. (The society generally meets monthly on a Sunday evening for a potluck dinner with the whole family, followed by a meeting -- babysitting provided. Please join us!).

  • YOU'VE GOT MAIL FROM SJN PARISH - Occasionally we send emails to the whole parish about special events. With the permission of the families involved, we also send notices when parishioners pass away along with information regarding the funeral arrangements. This will allow all of us to remember the deceased in our prayers and to know when the funeral Mass is being held. If you want to be sure that we have your email address, please send us a note at sjnp@saintjohnneumann.org. Alternately, if you don't want to receive these notices, please contact us at the same address.
  • SHARE THE WORD - The magazine/pamphlet rack in the lobby would welcome some good used Catholic magazines. Instead of discarding them, offer your gently used magazines to your fellow parishioners by placing them in the far right set of holders. Thank you.
